At the beginning of this month, Regents School of Austin held their second-annual Football Retreat at Frio Cañon. The Junior Varsity and Varsity Football teams spent two days camping on the property. They enjoyed time together as a team preparing for the upcoming season and a little play time as well. In between tree swings into the Frio River, ridiculous haircuts for the Freshmen and tons of barbecue, the group also worked together to help build the stone curbs you see around the Frio Cañon property.
It is important for Frio Cañon to respect the history of Real County and particularly, to honor the area pioneers that helped form the roots of the local community. Therefore, we are planning to dedicate the Frio Cañon Bridge in honor of local pioneer, Sabra Adeline Mear. The bridge will be named "Granny Mear Bridge". Sabra's son, John Mear, went to Germany and married Maria Mear, who still oversees ranching operations at the John Mear Ranch, which at one point, included the land we now call Frio Cañon.
