For a homeowner currently building a Shiflet Group Architects-designed vacation home in Frio Cañon, the variety of activities available to him and his family, all four seasons of the year, was valuable. The topography of the Texas Hill Country, married with the deep, cool and clear water of the Frio River, create a setting where his children can explore, actively entertaining themselves.

Meet the Founders of Frio Cañon, a Texas Hill Country Retreat

From the earliest stages, Frio Cañon has been a labor of love. David Dalgleish, owner of Austin-based Dalgleish Construction Company, discovered the land that is now Frio Cañon in 2007 while looking for a plot of land to build vacation cottages for his family. He was looking for an easily accessible retreat where his wife and five daughters (and eventually their families) could spend holidays and vacations together. He wanted the privacy of a traditional ranch, but one without the sense of isolation that often doesn’t appeal to youngsters.

Easter on the Frio

This past week, one of our property owners took the time to tell us about his family Easter at Frio Cañon.  For those of us here at Frio Cañon, it's hard to picture a better family get together than right here, at Frio Cañon.  Marc spent Easter weekend with his daughter and son-in-law, enjoying evenings "listening to the river sounds, frogs and crickets" from the back porch of the Model Cottage and mornings walking the river, landing a whopping catch of 14 fish, for "much needed relief from the hustle and bustle of Houston."  We may not have as much...

Friends of the Frio

Obviously, we're big fans of the Frio River and if you're reading this, you likely are as well. Because we couldn't imagine a summer without floating the river, we want to take part in keeping the river we love so much clean. On Saturday, Septemeber 11th, Friends of the Frio, an organization created to help mantain the beauty and health of the Frio River, is sponsoring a river clean up. Frio Bat Flight

We’re always looking for new and fun ways to enjoy the Texas Hill Country and we recently discovered the Frio Bat Flight Tour, offered by Hill Country Adventures! Tours are available at sunset (specific time varies due to season- check the website) and in the month of July, are available every evening but Sunday.
