From the earliest stages, Frio Cañon has been a labor of love. David Dalgleish, owner of Austin-based Dalgleish Construction Company, discovered the land that is now Frio Cañon in 2007 while looking for a plot of land to build vacation cottages for his family. He was looking for an easily accessible retreat where his wife and five daughters (and eventually their families) could spend holidays and vacations together. He wanted the privacy of a traditional ranch, but one without the sense of isolation that often doesn’t appeal to youngsters.

Fourth of July photos

Thanks to all who spent their Fourth of July with Frio Cañon!  We were blessed to have a large number of families brave the wet weather and join us for a weekend of barbecue, fireworks and the Leakey Fourth of July Jubliee Parade with family and friends.  We've recently updated the Frio Cañon website and that includes an update to our photo galleries.  Make sure to stop in and check out some of the photos here and look for more in the upcoming newsletter, which should be out next week.

Mama Chole's

When I head out to Leakey, there are two destinations I ALWAYS visit.  Frio Cañon is, of course, the first of my necessary stops, but the second is a little Tex-Mex restaurant in the heart of downtown Leakey.  Mama Chole's, found on Main Street, is a quaint, casual, hole-in-the-wall type of a restaurant with excellent food.  Their chips are home-made, the salsa is outstanding and you can't miss out on their enchiladas. If you want to treat yourself, go for the Mama Chole's plate with enchiladas and their fabulous tacos.
