Bridge Dedication

Posted by Abigail Dalgleish on 27 July 2010

It is important for Frio Cañon to respect the history of Real County and particularly, to honor the area pioneers that helped form the roots of the local community.  Therefore, we are planning to dedicate the Frio Cañon Bridge in honor of local pioneer, Sabra Adeline Mear.  The bridge will be named "Granny Mear Bridge".  Sabra's son, John Mear, went to Germany and married Maria Mear, who still oversees ranching operations at the John Mear Ranch, which at one point, included the land we now call Frio Cañon.  Below, see a photo of Sabra Adline "Granny Mear" around 1910, in her garden on the ranch.  She lived from 1868 - 1948.

The Bridge dedication will take place over Labor Day weekend and all are invited to celebrate with us!  Look for details to come in the following weeks.
