Easter on the Frio

Posted by Abigail Dalgleish on 2 May 2011

This past week, one of our property owners took the time to tell us about his family Easter at Frio Cañon.  For those of us here at Frio Cañon, it's hard to picture a better family get together than right here, at Frio Cañon.  Marc spent Easter weekend with his daughter and son-in-law, enjoying evenings "listening to the river sounds, frogs and crickets" from the back porch of the Model Cottage and mornings walking the river, landing a whopping catch of 14 fish, for "much needed relief from the hustle and bustle of Houston."  We may not have as much luck as Marc and the family, but we are grateful he released his bounty of bass, perch and catfish back into the river for the rest of us to enjoy!

Marc is currently building his own home on the Frio River and it is coming along nicely.  In between meeting with contractors, he was able to take a cold dip in the Frio.  As Marc remarked, "Why is it that a tube, a beverage and a cool crystal clear river seem to be the perfect ingredients for great conversations?"  The evening was rounded out with an afternoon hike up the mountain to take in the "spectacular" sunset over the mountains to the West and dinner accompanied by "stories" and the recovery of "long-forgotten memories."  We couldn't agree more with Marc when he exclaimed that it was "a great day for a Dad to spend with his family!"

Marc described his Easter morning, enjoying services at a local service, on the banks of the Frio River, under the second largest Cypress Tree in North America.  The Concan Baptist Missionary Church conducted the morning service which had over 200 people attend.  Following the service, a Cowboy Chuckwagon breakfast was served, then several people were baptized in the river.  Marc described this as "a cherished morning of worship and singing of some of the old hymns I remember my Dad singing when I was a child."  On the drive home to Frio Cañon, Marc sang hymns with his family and admits: "I don’t think we were ever on key, but we sure laughed a lot."

How excited we are to hear when property owners and friends can experience Frio Cañon in the way that we do: as a place for family and cherished memories.  Marc, we agree with you when you say that Frio Cañon is truly a place "where the simple things of life really are the best things."  We are grateful to be a part of a place as special as Frio Cañon and grateful to be a part of the memories you are adding to your Treasure Chest!  Thanks for sharing your Frio experience!
