Visit the Land & Wildlife
Waterfront real estate community Frio Cañon is located along the Frio River in the valley between Kerrville and Uvalde, Texas, known locally as “Frio Canyon.” The crystal clear and cold Frio River flows continuously and is fed by the underground springs of the adjacent Edwards and Glen Rose limestone formations. In fact, during the devastating drought in 2010 the Frio River that runs through the property had no discernible change in water level due to these springs. High mesas, lush, rolling hills, dramatic canyons and limestone cliffs surround Frio Cañon.
Frio Cañon comprises more than 100 acres of managed wildlife, which includes sycamores, oaks, pecans, madrones and age-old cypress trees. More than 50 species of birds reside in the Frio River valley including mourning doves, Eastern Bluebirds, woodpeckers, and Golden-cheeked Warblers. Frio Canyon is also home to white-tailed and Axis Deer, mountain lions, Rio Grande Turkeys, and aoudads, among others.
Frio Cañon is located upstream from the most popular tubing destinations on the Frio River, which makes for excellent fly fishing. The Frio, Nueces and Sabinal Rivers — all within 50 miles of each other — are prime, freshwater fly fishing destinations in the Texas Hill Country. Area fish include Guadalupe Bass, Black Bass.
Garner State Park and Lost Maples State Natural Area are just two of the dozens of destinations in the area. Information about nearby attractions is available here.
